Christmas is only a couple of weeks away. Our favorite part of Christmas is getting together with our family and spending time eating good food, playing games, exploring outdoors, and catching up over a few days together. Some years we spend the Christmas holiday in northern Utah playing in the snow and some years we spend the Christmas break in southern Utah enjoying the mild weather and getting out and exploring the many state and national parks around Kanab. Christmas in southern Utah is a great tradition that allows our family to enjoy many different types of recreation and activities together. Here are a few activities that our family enjoys during our Christmas celebration in southern Utah.

One of our favorite activities is hiking the red rock canyons, sand dunes, and desert washes around the Kanab area. There are endless hikes and areas to explore around Kanab. Many of the state and national parks around Kanab have world-famous hikes that attract tourists from all over the world. Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park are just north of Kanab, Buckskin Gulch and the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park are just south of Kanab. There are also many less popular hikes in the Kanab area that are spectacular for families to enjoy during their Christmas in Kanab. Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and Lick Wash are two of our favorites. Toadstools and Moqui Caves are easy ones for families with small children.

We also love to relax in the hot tub and pool during our family Christmas in Kanab. Kanab afternoons in December are often mild enough for a swim in the pool and the children love to play in the pool for a few hours on a warm afternoon. The adults enjoy relaxing in the hot tub while the children swim and play in the pool.

We also enjoy relaxing, eating good food, and watching Christmas movies. The Grand Plateau Lodge has a big kitchen for preparing great food for the holiday. It also has a nice theatre room for everyone to gather and watch their favorite Christmas movies while they snack on Christmas cookies and drink hot chocolate.

We hope your family has a wonderful Christmas and next time you decide to come to southern Utah for a family Christmas give us a call at Grand Plateau Lodge!
