Summer has arrived and summer vacations and family gatherings are in full swing the next couple of months. Kanab, Utah and the surrounding area is an amazing area to spend time with your family on a small summer vacation or a large family gathering. In this blog post we will discuss some of the best activities and adventures for families to enjoy while vacationing or gathering in southern Utah.
Families love to visit national parks on a Utah summer vacation and around Kanab there is no shortage of national parks. Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park are just north of Kanab and are easy to explore while your family is staying in Kanab. The north rim of the Grand Canyon is just south of Kanab about an hour, and is a great place to see spectacular natural scenery with your family. Everyone should visit the Grand Canyon with their family at least once.
Just southeast of Kanab about an hour are some of the most spectacular slot canyons in the world. Families can take day hikes into these canyons and see the world-famous slot canyons with their family. Buckskin Gulch, Paria Canyon, and Antelope Canyon are all within an hour drive of Kanab and are some of the most iconic and scenic slot canyons in the world. You do need a reservation and guide to hike in Antelope Canyon, so make sure you plan ahead and make a reservation if you want to see this slot canyon.
There are also some great sand dunes and hoodoos around Kanab for families to enjoy with small children who can not hike. North of Kanab is Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. This beautiful expanse of sand dunes is great for families to play and enjoy the day with small children. South of Kanab about 30 minutes is an area of hoodoos by the side of the highway called Toadstools. This is a great area for children to climb and play on the rock formations and very easy to get to for families.
The Grand Plateau Lodge and RV Resort makes a great base camp for those wanting to explore this amazing area this summer. The RV resort has nice RV sites and small camper cabins for a small family. A large family or two families could rent the luxury home on the property with a private swimming pool and hot tub. Large families or family gatherings can rent the gorgeous Grand Plateau Lodge that has 11 bedrooms and a private pool and hot tub.
