Kanab is beautiful this time of year and spring is one of our favorite seasons in this area of Utah. The mornings and evenings are cool and the afternoons are warm. It is a great season for being outdoors and enjoying the breathtaking beauty and amazing recreation in Kanab and southern Utah. In this blog we will share some of our favorite hiking and outdoor recreation areas in southern Utah around Kanab.

Coyote Buttes is an amazing natural area just south of Kanab that has some of the most breathtaking red rock scenery and formations in the United States. The Wave is one of the most famous areas of Coyote Buttes and requires a permit to access, but there are other areas in this expansive area that are just as breathtaking that do not require a permit. The Wirepass Trail goes right past The Wave and into Buckskin Gulch slot canyon. This slot canyon is one of the deepest and longest slot canyons in the world and is definitely worth seeing at least once in your lifetime. White Pocket is also a spectacular natural area with amazing red rock formations in the Coyote Buttes area. The dirt road to get to White Pocket is sandy and you will need a high clearance four wheel drive vehicle or an OHV, but there is no permit required.

Just north of Kanab is some great areas for families to explore and play outdoors. The Coral Pink Sand Dunes are just north of town about 15 minutes and is amazing sand dunes to ride ATVs and play in the sand with children. The Sand Caves are just north of town a few minutes and is a short hike for families to walk up to some neat caves to play in and take pictures with their family. It is a great spot for families with small children to explore and enjoy some neat caves and formations. Toadstools is a great area for families to explore south of Kanab. It is located just off the highway and is easy to get to with children.

There are national parks surrounding Kanab and families that want to see national parks in southern Utah will have a great central location when they stay in Kanab to explore many of the great national parks during their stay. Zion and Bryce Canyon are both just north of Kanab about an hour. Grand Canyon National Park is south of Kanab about an hour and a half and is a great day trip when you are staying in Kanab in the spring.

Grand Plateau Lodge and RV Resort is a great spot for groups of any size to stay during the spring months when they are exploring the natural beauty of this area.
