National and state parks are scattered across southern Utah and in the winter months many of these beautiful parks are much quieter and more peaceful. Visitors will love this peaceful time of year and will enjoy the beautiful views that can only be found during the winter months with the smaller crowds and the rain and snow on the red rock formations. Groups visiting southern Utah in the winter months will also find solitude and quiet around Kanab and the beautiful hiking areas surrounding Kanab. Here are a few areas we love to explore in the winter months around Grand Plateau Resort in Kanab.

Buckskin Gulch is about 45 miles south of the Grand Plateau Resort and is one of the most spectacular narrows canyons in the world. The massive sandstone walls rise hundreds of feet into the air on both sides as you make your way through this amazing canyon. The Wire Pass Trail allows groups with limited time or small children to enter Buckskin Gulch about halfway through the canyon and explore around the middle of the canyon. Groups with more time and energy can spend the entire day hiking the canyon and see this spectacular canyon in its entirety.

Toadstools and Coral Pink Sand Dunes are both great areas for families with children. Toadstools is located about 45 minutes south of Kanab and is just off the highway, so it is easy to access without a long hike for families with children. It is fun for children to climb and explore on the hoodoo formations and great for adults to take pictures and relax while the children play. Coral Pink Sand Dunes is about 25 minutes northwest of Kanab and is another great place for families. Both adults and children will enjoy playing on the sand dunes and exploring the dunes for formations and animals. It is easy to access just off the road and families can easily find and access this amazing natural formation.

There are lots of amazing areas to explore by foot or ATV around Kanab in the winter months. We hope to see you this winter at Grand Plateau Resort in Kanab for some southern Utah winter hikes! Book a winter stay today!
